NHS Scientist Training Programme - 2018 recruitment

Applications are now open for the graduate-entry NHS Scientist Training Programme (STP) 2018*.

The STP is an exciting postgraduate training programme providing an accredited MSc in Clinical Science that leads to eligibility to apply for clinical scientist status.

*There is an annual intake in September each year and, for 2018 entry, the recruitment cycle opened on Monday 15 January 2018. 

Getting in

For entry you must have a 1st or a 2.1 either in an undergraduate honours degree, or an integrated Master's degree in a pure or applied science subject relevant to the specialism for which you are applying. Applicants with a relevant 2.2 honours degree will also be considered if they have a higher degree in a subject relevant to the specialism for which they are applying. Evidence of research experience in the form of a higher degree or equivalent evidence of a scientific/academic basis is also desirable.

Please note that a higher degree is as defined by the Frameworks for Higher Education Qualifications of UK Degree-Awarding Bodies. This does not include postgraduate diplomas or postgraduate certificates..

Healthcare science specialisms available through the STP

Postgraduate training for the STP leads to a specifically commissioned and accredited Master's degree and certification of achievement of work based training. The programme offers *specialisms based around the following themes.

Applications

Recruitment to the Scientist Training Programme (STP) in 2018 is being coordinated by the National School of Healthcare Science (NSHCS). Applications for the STP are made online through the portal on the NSHCS website.

Direct entry applications

Applications to the Scientist Training Programme for direct entry opened on Monday 15 January 2018 and close at 5pm on Monday 12 February 2018. Applications after this date will not be accepted.

In-service applications

Applications for in-service applicants opened on Monday 15 January 2018 and close at 5pm on Monday 12 March 2018. Applications after this date will not be accepted.

Competition

There is considerable competition for places and the recruitment window won’t remain open for long. No late applications will be accepted so make sure you give yourself plenty of time to make an informed application!
